After producing TZ 750 A, B and C from 1974 to 1976 (Giacomo Agostini won the 200 miles of Daytona in 1974), Yamaha produced from 1977 to 1979 a privateer motorcycle derived from the fabulous factory motorcycles (0W 31) of world champions Steve Baker (1977 750 World Champion) and Johnny Cecotto (1978 750 World Champion).
In 1979, French driver Patrick Pons won the supreme title of 750 world champion on a TZ 750 F customer competition.
