True works-Superbike, this Yamaha FZR 750 R (OW01) was used by the Italian Vice-World Champion, Fabrizio Pirovano in the 1992 season.
The here presented bike received the best technical evolutions from the factory in 1992: frame, suspensions, radiators, camshafts, ignition, brakes, exhaust and carburetors are special parts from the factory.
In 1992 the bike was engaged in the Superbike World Championship within the team BYRD Diemme Racing (tuner: Peppo Russo), for Fabrizio Pirovano. With this bike Pirovano won two races, achieved five second places and two third, in total nine podiums. He also made four track records: Hockenheim, Jarama, Sugo, and Monza. In the overall ranking he finished fifth that year. At the same time he won the Italian Superbike championship.
So, the here presented bike is the Italian Superbike championship winning bike of 1992. On the special frame the plate carries the number #000003: it’s the third frame built by the factory. In the world championship Fabrizio Pirovano had two identical bikes for each season.
This bike hasn’t been started since 1993 until it was verified and restarted by a specialized French tuner in 2013.
During the “Coupes Moto Légende” event in Dijon in June 2013 it was ridden on the track by a rider of the Classic Racing Motorcycles Team.
It is in working order and ready to race, fitted with a new pair of slicks.
This is a unique opportunity to own a works bike with racing history that marked Yamaha’s participation in Superbike.
Fabrizio Pirovano raced for Yamaha Belgarda for six years (from 1988 to 1993) before he moved to Ducati. He achieved remarkable results with Yamaha in the Superbike world championship: second in 1988 and 1990, fourth in 1989 and 1993 and fifth in 1991 and 1992.
