The here presented bike is a Molnar Manx Replica built in 2013. It has hardly been used and never raced (two demonstration rides in 2013 with a total of less than 250 km): it’s thus in new condition…
The Norton Manx were 350 cc and 500 cc four-stroke mono-cylinder racers. Originally called “International Racing Model”, in 1936 it was nicknamed “Manx” (from the Isle of Man) following its multiple victories in the famous TT race. It’s in that same year when the single overhead camshaft engine dating from 1929 was disguised with a double OHC. Production was discontinued due to the war and only started again in 1949. The multiple improvements of the engine were accompanied with the invention of the so called “Featherbed” frame, with Reynolds tubes. And what followed was another series of successful participations in the TT.
Without a sufficient number of customers the factory was forced to abandon production in 1963 and the last original Norton Manx were sold that year until the stock of parts was entirely sold.
Following various adventures and changes in ownership, the English company Molnar Precision Limited, founded by the passionate engineer Andy Molnar, acquired the rights to build Norton Manx in 1994. Some 20 years later, in 2005, the Molnar Manx #100 was delivered to the “National Motorcycle Museum”. A great compliment that hasn’t been the end of the story: production is still continuing.
It has to be pointed out that Molnar doesn’t only built their own Manx: they are also supplier of spares for the original Manx, parts built following the original Norton drawings.
Their engineers developed the Manx engine, based on the experience and experiments done in the past by Norton and Tickle, who had bought Manx in 1969. The result of the research are the 90 and 95 bore short stroke 499 cc Molnar Manx, which provided outstanding results in recent years, amongst other important victories around the world, winning the Classic Senior Manx Grand Prix.
