After the disappointment of Honda in 1968 one could believe that Kawasaki would be discouraged to finalise its project; but just the contrary happened.
Honda was certainly informed about the 4 cylinder 4 stroke project of Kawasaki but not reverse. Kawasaki’s development department simply ignored the preparations of the Honda CB 750 for the 1968 Tokyo show. This seemed to be though a true motivation to accelerate the progress of their work.
Although Honda profited from a surprise effect presenting the large 4 cylinder to the public first, Kawasaki took the advantage to observe. The Honda CB 750 was certainly revolutionary for its time but suffered from some initial design defaults.
This pragmatic analysis was probably the base for Kawasaki to establish the “Super Four”. The 900 Z is easy to handle, beautiful and well proportioned. The 4 chromed exhausts emit an enchanting sound when revving up the engine. Equipped with a superb double cam cylinderhead, the engine capacity was increased to 900 cc, which was never seen before! The lines are smooth and the appearance is impressive, almost proud, this is a simply magnificent model!
In 1973 man talked about nothing else but this bike. A myths was born!
The here presented 900 Z1 is a model from 1975 which was entirely restored in 2008, showing 49,055 km on the counter (and only 1,500 km since its restoration). The engine was entirely dismantled, controlled and all wear parts were replaced. The cylinders were rebored. The pistons, rings, pins, valve guides and gaskets and timing chain are new.
The frame was repainted from bare metal. All axle bearings, wheel and steering, were replaced. All chrome parts were replaced by original Kawasaki parts. The following parts are also new: the Comodo, the seat, paint of body elements, and all nuts and bolts. This bike is now in absolutely perfect condition. The owner preferred keeping the original counter instead of replacing it by a new one (but if the future buyer wishes a new counter, we can easily have it replaced).
Since its entire restoration the bike has only run 1,500 km and is in perfect working order, ready to take the road.
This bike is now available and registered in the centre of France. |
