Organized by a British company, the first edition of the World GP Bike Legends has taken place on the Jerez race-track in southern Spain, on June 19 to 21, 2015.

Visitors were delighted to meet and observe legendary riders such as Kevin Schwantz, Wayne Gardner, Freddy Spencer, Christian Sarron, Phil Read…

The Yamaha Historic Racing Team was invited together with Christian Sarron and Hubert Rigal who disposed of two YZR 500, two Grand Prix machines from 1988 and 1989 in perfect racing condition.

Shortly after arrival at the Jerez race track the organizers approached Hubert Rigal with a special request, to entrust one of the YZR to Freddy Spencer as his Honda NS 250 was “out of competition” due to a crank-shaft problem.

Fast Freddy had the privilege to win one of the races with this Yamaha (although in his Honda leathers…) followed by the Texan Kevin Schwantz on a 1994 500 V4 and the Australian Wayne Gardner on a Cagiva V4. We also noted the presence of other glorious personalities from the past, still ready to tease the accelerator: Didier de Radiguès on a Cagiva, or Christian Sarron on the other YZR 500.

This weekend wasn’t an easy play, given the over-heated track (43° C in the shade) and thus at the finish line some of the former World Champions were somehow “condensed”…
