In the 1960, one of the world’s most prestigious events was the Big Bear race, an event running through the California Mojave desert and up to the Big Bear lake in the San Bernardino Mountains. Yamaha decided in 1965 to name one of its models after this event, despites never winning the race. The YD250 Big Bear street scrambler was born.
In 1967, the new YM2 motorcycle was also given that same “Big Bear name,” yet as Yamaha still had not won the event. Sold exclusively in the United States, the YM2 Scrambler Big Bear was a 1967-model only, and approximately 6,000 units were sold.
Taking the same engine as the YM1, a 305 cc twin cylinder developing a healthy 30 bhp, the major change came from the relocation of the clutch to the transmission shaft instead of the crankshaft. This change allowed the YM2 to sport a narrower engine and making cornering easier as well as making the clutch operation smoother.
The YM2 Scrambler Big Bear we are offering for sale is a beautiful example of an unrestored Big Bear. Completely original with the exception of the paintwork (the side flaring and tank were repainted in the original color), it is in perfect working order.
This Yamaha YM2 Scrambler Big Bear is immediately available in France. |
