After the TX 750 marketed in 1973 and 1974, which was rather a flop due to its fragile engine, Yamaha had no other choice than realigning their technology and standing out from the competitive offer.
Suzuki introduced the GS 750, Kawasaki its Z 750 and Honda its CB 750 F2 and CB 750 K7. Yamahas choice turned out to be original:
The Yamaha XS 750 is the second Japanese bike equipped with a cardan shaft (after the Honda GL 1000) and three cylinder engine.
In 1976 the XS 750 was introduced in the Japanese market (as GX 750) as well as in the USA and later on in European countries, such as France in 1977.
The 3 cylinder engine (120°) combines the suppleness of a 4 cylinder with the couple of a twin-cylinder.
The engine was conceived in Japan and the drive shaft in Germany. The engine is top end technology of that period with its DOHC and two valves per cylinder. The carburettors are constant depression models.
The finish is at a superior level. The bike is originally equipped with alloy wheels and 3 disc brakes, the fuel tap works under depression, the passenger footrests are suspended, the rear mudguard can be folded in order to facilitate the removing of the rear wheel.
The lines of the XS 750 are pleasing and well balanced, in particular due to its double exhaust line.
The here presented XS 750 was entirely restored by its current owner and has hardly been used since.
This Yamaha XS 750 is immediately available in the center of France and comes with a French road registration. |
