This Yamaha TZ 750 4 cylinder is the must-have of all race bikes of the 70s. Also known as OW 31 (OW 31 was the official denomination of works bikes raced by Agostini, Baker Cecotto), these machines won the 750 World Championship three years in a row (1977, 78 and 79):
1977: Steve Baker OW 31
1978: Johnny Cecotto OW 31
1979: Patrick Pons TZ 750
The French driver Patrick Pons won the 1979 championship title with a Yamaha TZ 750 privateer bike, identical to the here presented bike.
Only 300 TZ 750 with cantilever were produced by the Yamaha factory from 1977 to 79.
The here presented bike was restored conforming original specifications. The engine was controlled and restored by Jacky Germain (former technical engineer of the Team Sonauto Yamaha of Patrick Pons and Christian Sarron).
The crankcase is in excellent condition. The pistons, rings, crankshaft bearings were changed and have only run 150 km since the full engine restoration. The bike is equipped with period wheels and exhaust pipe conforming to the originals from 1977. Only the main cylinder of the rear brake (originally in magnesium) was replaced by a new Brembo (the original Yamaha part is no longer available).
This bike is in perfect working order, ready to race. This is the perfect bike to participate in classic events. A powerful engine (+ 300 km/h), supple, light (150 kg) and reliable. The engine parts are quite easy to find. (We dispose of contacts of suppliers). Our collaborator, Hubert Rigal (6th of the 1977 750cc World Championship with a Yamaha TZ 750) participates with the team “Classic-Motorbikes.com” and the French race driver Christian Sarron (vice Champion in 1977) with their Yamaha TZ 750 in most of the classic race bike events Europe wide in the 2011 season.
Come and join them and have fun on the race track riding one of the most mythical race bikes ever. |
